GRAVES COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

A Kentucky State Trooper involved in a deadly shooting last weekend has been placed on administrative leave.

According to KSP, the trooper that fired his weapon was Trooper Jody Cash.  Trooper Cash is assigned to the Kentucky State Police Post 1 and works primarily Graves County.

He has been placed on paid administrative leave, pursuant to KSP policy, while the investigation continues.

Kentucky State troopers say they were called to a fight at around 4:15 p.m. Saturday.

Troopers say the caller told them that shots had been fired.

When deputies arrived, they say they found Ted Newsome, 49, holding a handgun.

According to KSP, Newsome approached trooper Cash and raised his gun towards him.

Investigators say that's when the Trooper Cash shot Newsome.

Newsome was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Kentucky state police say this is still an ongoing investigation.
