Benton man arrested for firearm threat

BENTON, IL (KFVS) -

A Benton man was arrested for threatening a group of people with a handgun.

Curtis Derington, 61, of Benton, was placed under arrest following the incident that took place Wednesday, October 17.

Marshall County Deputy Nathan Maxlow was dispatched to Noles Lane in Benton in reference to a subject stating that he was going to shoot the workers from North Marshall Water.

Prior to arrival dispatch had asked the subject to put the gun down and step away from it.

 When Deputy Maxlow arrived the subject had unloaded and put the firearm down.

After speaking to the victims Deputy Maxlow concluded that the subject had pointed the firearm at all of them.

The subject claimed that he never pointed the gun at the workers but did approach them with it.

Derington was arrested and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree.
