Police say a traffic stop led to the discovery of a meth lab and more than 1,200 grams of meth in West Frankfort, Ill.

The West Frankfort Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of west Midway Street Thursday at 3:49 a.m.

The driver of the vehicle was Steven D. Morris, 41, from Marion, Ill.

Morris was arrested for unlawful possession of meth making materials, unlawful participation in meth production, possession of Anhydrous Ammonia with intent to make meth, possession of Anhydrous Ammonia in an unauthorized container, unlawful possession of meth and driving while license revoked.

Officers say they could smell a strong, chemical odor coming from the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle they say they found methamphetamine making materials and methamphetamine.

The following items used in the methamphetamine manufacturing process were found:

One bottle of ether, two plastic bottles used to cook in, one bottle of water, 32 oz bottle of Liquid Fire, one can of starting fluid, homemade generators, salt, coffee filters and zip-lock bags.

Officers also found more than 1,200 grams of substances containing methamphetamine.
