Exactly six months after construction began, Broadway in downtown Cape is now open from beginning to end.

Crews finished work around 1 p.m. Tuesday at the closed intersection of Pacific and Broadway.

Work on the Broadway Improvement Project began in April at Water and Broadway and continued, block by block, over six months, making for detours throughout that time.

The $4.4 million Broadway Renovation Plan includes an expansion of the sidewalk on the north side of Broadway into a 15 foot pedestrian promenade. That work took out 64 existing parking spots. However there are designated public parking lots available.

The plan also includes amenities like street lights, benches, and trees.

Something else drivers will notice, there is now a timer on the stop light at Sprigg and Broadway, which will control wait times during the late night or early morning commute.

City leaders remind that construction will continue, as Fronabarger Concreters out of Oak Ridge, puts the finishing touches on the project. However, the street will remain open.
