METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) -

Metropolis police responded to a report of a break-in at a home in the 800 block of East 3rd Street around 4:10 a.m. on Sunday, October 7.

Joshua A. York, 28, of Benton, Ky. and Jacob "Jake" D. Hall, 22, of Metropolis were each charged with two counts of burglary and theft. They were taken to the Massac County Detention Center.

Police say a citizen reported seeing two men at the shed of the home and said he yelled at them. The witness told police the suspects ran and one turned and got into a silver-colored car.

According to police, officers found the silver car parked in the middle of the alley. As the officer turned his squad car into the alley, he says the suspect started the car and drove away. The officer was able to pull the car over.

Police say the driver, York, was extremely nervous. They say inside the car were several household-type items.

The victim was contacted and told officers he did not give permission for anyone to enter his property, house or shed.

York was taken to the Metropolis Police Department where police say the victim was able to identify the property in the car as belonging to him and said they were taken out of his home without permission.

Police were able to identify the second suspect as Hall. They say he was believed to be at a home in the 600 block of East 3rd Street. When police arrived, they say the owner granted permission for them to come in and they found Hall, along with items from a different burglary on Oct. 5 in the 800 block of East 3rd Street.

Police say the victim of the Oct. 5 burglary came to the station and identified his property as well.

According to Metropolis police, the investigation is ongoing.
