Illinois man killed in semi vs. truck crash in Wayne County

WAYNE COUNTY, IL (KFVS) -

A Belleville, Illinois man was killed in a two vehicle crash in Wayne County.

It happened Friday around 5:25 p.m. on Interstate 64 at the 104.5 mile marker.

According to Illinois State Police, Richard L. Stehlick, 52, of Belleville was in a parked Ford Ranger pickup on the south shoulder of I-64.

A Volvo semi-trailer was eastbound when police say Stehlick abruptly try to turn north in the truck crossing both lanes of traffic into an emergency vehicle median turn-around.

The two vehicles collided and Stehlick was thrown from the pickup. Troopers say he was pronounced dead at the scene.

ISP was assisted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Department, Wayne County Fire Department, Wayne County Ambulance Service and Coroner Jimmy Taylor.
