Oran man facing child abuse charges

ORAN, MO (KFVS) -

The Scott County sheriff says an Oran man was taken into custody on child abuse charges.

Cameron M. Gettings, 21, of Oran was charged with two counts of felony child abuse and endangering the welfare of a child in the 1st degree.

According to Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, emergency medical personnel responded to a residence on Railroad Street in Oran Wednesday afternoon for reports that a two-year-old child was bitten by a spider.

He says Medical personnel determined that the child's injuries were not consistent with a spider bite. Walter says the child's right eye was swollen shut and it appeared the child had been struck with some sort of object.

According to Walter, an investigator responded to the scene and questioned the mother and Gettings about the child's injury.

Walter says during the questioning, Gettings reportedly admitted striking the child with his fist because the child was being loud and jumping on the bed.

The child was reportedly taken a Cape Girardeau hospital where he was treated and released.

Gettings was taken to the Scott County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
