POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) -

A "Welcome Home" celebration was held for veterans and their families Saturday in Poplar Bluff.

The 5th annual event was hosted by the John J. Pershing Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center.

Organizers say around a thousand people showed up along with hundreds of veterans. And, those numbers were triple last year's attendance.

Two-hundred Boy Scouts also attended at the event.

The event began at 10 a.m. with induction of seven veteran heroes into the VAMCs "Wall of Valor."

The "Wall" recognizes veterans who have received awards of valor in combat.

The welcome home theme spotlighted returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, but honored all veterans who served their country.

There was food, fun, games and even an Antique-Hot Rod car show.

Hot dogs were provided by the Shriners. Organizers say they cooked over 2,000 and ran out.
