SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

Sikeston Police say an argument Wednesday afternoon ended in gunfire and a man rushed to the hospital.

Lt. Jim McMillen with the Sikeston Department of Public safety says the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of West Murray Lane.

Leopha R. Winfield, 34, of Sikeston was shot in the abdomen.

McMillen says by the time officers arrived, the Winfield had already been taken by car to the hospital. The 34-year-old victim had been shot in the stomach and was taken to surgery right away.

DPS investigators began working the case and learned the incident stemmed from a disturbance that led to the Winfield being shot.

DPS is now searching for Ricky Dewayne Davis, Jr., 26, of Sikeston for his alleged assault on Winfield.

Davis is charged with assault 1st degree and armed criminal action.

Davis was given a $50,000 cash only bond for the above charges.

Anyone with information on Davis is asked to contact DPS at 573-471-4711 or the Crimestopper's Hot Line at 573-471-1500. Tips can remain anonymous.

You may also be eligible for a cash reward if you have information on Davis' whereabouts.

Winfield was said to be in stable condition, recuperating in the hospital.
