New construction means new jobs in Sikeston

SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A new, 46,000 square foot skilled nursing facility will be coming to the south side of Sikeston.

$50 million in new construction is being pumped into Sikeston over the next year.

Benchmark Healthcare will invest nearly $10 million in the 100-bed campus.

Meantime, on the north side of town, work is already underway on the Sikeston Salcedo Road Americare facility.

The Do It Best Corporation broke ground in Sikeston in July for a new distribution center.

Sikeston Economic Development Director Ed Dust says Sikeston is moving forward.

Anytime you have somebody spending money in construction jobs, they always lead to real jobs," said Dust. "And real jobs is what leads to people moving into communities, staying in communities, making your community grow. When you're losing jobs, you're going the wrong way. And we don't want to do that anymore."

Benchmark plans an official groundbreaking ceremony later this month and plans to open its new facility in July of 2013.
