Scott County Central added to A+ program list

SCOTT COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Scott County Central recently became part of the A+ program that pays for a student's first two years of college at Missouri community colleges or even some four-year schools.

"Because on my own, I wouldn't be able to pay for that," said Amber Fritz, a senior.

But like many students in high school, Fritz finds herself asking how will she pay for it.

"I want to go to Stephens College and with the program it is an option," Fritz said.

School officials invested the three years to become part of the A+ program.

"And with the financial aid the way it is today, the grants are becoming less and less the student loan number is rising," Kimberly Bissett, a counselor at the school, said.

"It allows us to take students that maybe wouldn't go to college or not have the opportunities and bundle that with the FASA program and take the A+ program to further their education and bring up society as a whole," said Rich Thomas, school principal.

Fritz says she wouldn't have even considered Stephen College because of the money. But with the first two years paid for, it's part of the process now.

"Well it's awesome to not have to worry about if I can afford the tuition for that school," Fritz said.
