Miners win Frontier League Championship

MARION, IL (KFVS) -

(KFVS) - The Southern Illinois Miners won the 2012 Frontier League Championship against the Florence Freedom from Kentucky, winning Game Four 4-3 in 12 innings Sunday night at Rent One Park.

The Miners won on a walk-off walk to Jake Kaase, scoring Chad Maddox. It is the Miners first championship in their 6 seasons in the Frontier League.

"Doesn't get any better," said Miners manager Mike Pinto, whose been with the team since its inception in 2007. "To win it like this, in front of an unbelievably alive and energetic crowd, to win it like that what an unbelievable game, and that's the kind of game you want to win. I said [to my team] all along, if we could get in [to the playoffs], we could win. And just an unbelievable job from them. There's not a guy on this team that wasn't a part of it."
