BENTON, MO (KFVS) -

The Wilderness SAR Operations Course is designed for volunteers to come out to General Watkins Recreation Park south of to become more knowledgeable about how to search for missing people.

Saturday nearly 30 people showed up for the training.

It was sponsored by the Scott County Sheriff's Department.  There were volunteers from Cape Girardeau, Poplar Bluff, Scott County and southern Illinois. They all came out to learn the proper ways of the tactics in searching and field training, day or night.

It's a vital tool for the Sheriff's Department because they are usually busy with gathering information about who is missing and gathering clues.

Authorities say time is always a factor and the training is a vital part of helping to find a missing person.

The SAR Operations course was a classroom learning course in the morning.
