Stoddard County organization gathering donations for hurricane relief

STODDARD COUNTY, MO (KFVS) -

Hurricane Isaac may be history, but for those caught in the storm's path the devastation remains. People are still cleaning up, and this weekend a Heartland group called Hope International is working to reach out to those still in need.

Hope International is a ministry nearly two years in the making in Stoddard County.

"We reach out to different places in the country and around the world when needed," said Gale Jordan-General Manager, Hope International.

They also help here at home with everyday disasters like house fires, people who need the basics of life to get back on their feet.

"We're still helping people with the flood of last spring," said Jordan.

The local flooding rocked places like Morehouse, and several other parts of the Heartland.

Now, the devastation is to our south and Hope International wants to reach out to those victims.

"Afterwards there are so many more needs such as clean up, and the basic restoration process that lasts for years," said Jordan.

Hope International is teaming up with the Southern Baptist Convention, a group that is already on the ground in Louisiana.

"When we saw hurricane Isaac was going to hit and cause damage we found out the needs and hooked up with them they were already set up," said Jordan.

He has learned there are evacuees just now getting back into their homes.

"The sense of being able to give back and being a part of something bigger than yourself is rewarding," said Jordan.

Hope International will be accepting donations Saturday, September 15, 2012 at four locations from 8:00a.m.-6:00p.m.

They include, the Cape Girardeau Wal-mart, Sikeston Wal-mart, Lighthouse Church in Dexter and the Hope International office in Bernie.
