Woman wrecks scooter at event to honor SEMO player injured in scooter crash

One woman was injured in a scooter wreck at Houck Stadium Tuesday evening, according to Cape Girardeau police.

Police said woman lost control of her scooter as she turned off Broadway and into the stadium.  She ended up hitting two parked vehicles.

The victim went to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.

The wreck occurred the same night that, according to the SEMO Redhawks official Twitter feed, a program record 841 fans showed up at Houck Stadium in support of Meg Herndon.  Herndon, a SEMO women's soccer player, was critically injured Sunday afternoon when, according to Cape Girardeau police, her scooter collided with a truck near the intersection of Normal Avenue and Sprigg Street.

Students showed their support throughout the day on Twitter by tweeting using the hashtag #rallyformeg, urging followers to go to Tuesday night's game in honor of Herndon.

Herndon was still in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis Tuesday night.
