In response to Last Week's Viewpoint on bullying Rick wrote in to say:

"When I was in school, you simply got to a point and stood up to bullies! In today's age, things are handled and looked at more differently! It's sad to think human power is much like the animal world in "Wild Kingdom" shows! The weak are beaten down by the much stronger and alpha-roll! In 2012, we now see just how bullies do affect many students and schools! This type of aggressive behavior later as they become teen's get much worse and much more violent! They lack empathy and the rush of power can be much like a drug in it's self. As a parent, pay attention to your child. They may not always say what's wrong with words but understand foreseeing the non-verbal signs is your best clue and insight that there is a problem...."

Thanks Rick.

And also folks I would be remiss if I did not mention that there is a very special group of kids in Poplar Bluff tackling this subject head on. The Anti-Bully club, an after school group sponsored by the Poplar Bluff Police Department has over 200 kids committed to raise awareness and prevent bullying from happening at school, at home, and in their community. I'm told they are the first in the state of Missouri to have such an organization. Go get ‘em Poplar Bluff. We're proud of the stance you're taking.
