High School students have 2 options when it comes to college credit

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Students have two options for receiving college credit.

The first is AP credit.

You pay around $90, and you have one test.

Depending on your score, your credit will transfer to most schools.

The second option is dual credit.

It's a class taught by a high school teacher.

Credit for the class is received through a university. At Cape Central it's through Southeast Missouri State University.

This costs around $500 and doesn't transfer as easily as AP.

Students who have taken both courses, they say they prefer the dual credit because there's less pressure of just one test.

It's taught by a teacher they know and they take it with their friends.

"Well after graduation, if everything goes well, I'll have over a year of college credit," said Cape Central senior Joshua Sander.

"Dual credit for high school is like $100 per credit hour and even at colleges it's $500-600," said Cape Central senior Chleo LeGrand. "So even if it's expensive now, it will be even more expensive down the road."

Also, students say that the AP tests usually fall around prom and graduation when they might be more focused on those things, rather than studying for a test.
