MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Fire crews were on the scene Wednesday afternoon of a six unit apartment fire in McCracken County.

According to the sheriff's office, the apartment on fire was in the 3900 block of Lovelaceville Road near Windmill Street.

The apartment complex is called Windmill Crossing.

The Lone Oak Fire Chief says the fire broke out at the Windmill Crossing Apartments a little after 2 p.m.

The chief says the fire swept through three duplexes on the property.

"I was just laying on the couch and just saw black clouds coming across the window, and just thought it was a storm," said Mindy Baker, who's apartment burned. "And then somebody started banging on the door and said 'get out, get out.' So I went and woke my mom up, grabbed the dog and ran out the door. And within ten minutes that whole building was in flames and then it spread to mine."

The Lone Oak Fire Chief says the fire is under investigation, but firefighters say the fire started in the rear of one of the duplexes and spread to five additional units before crews got the fire under control.

The state Fire marshal was called to investigate.

McCracken 911 dispatch reports KY 1322-Lovelaceville Road was closed due to the fire.
