CAMPBELL, MO (KFVS) -

A Heartland principal and his family are homeless after fire ripped through their Dunklin County house.

They're thankful for their lives, and the amazing amount of help from neighbors and strangers.

The Siebert's lost their home, but feel like they've gained more than they had before. They are now overwhelmed with kindness, and thankful for what many call a miracle.

On Tuesday during school hours Mika Siebert, a kindergarten teacher in Campbell, got a frantic phone call.

Her co-workers remember it well.

"Mika screamed and I ran in to see what was the matter," said Margo Rhine-Kindergarten Teacher. "She said her house was on fire, and I just told her to go."

Jeremy Siebert, principal at Campbell High School was out of town. "I was at an administrator's meeting in Cape, and started getting calls about the house being on fire," said Jeremy Siebert.

The couple's children ages 9, 5, and 4 were all at school.

"We we're so happy they weren't at home," said Kristi Belcher-Elementary Librarian.

"The main thing is our family is okay and this didn't happen in the middle of the night when our family was in there asleep that's the most important thing," said Jeremy Siebert. " I thank God for that."

Immediately people starting pitching in to help.

"It's absolutely overwhelming, and gives me goose bumps," said Siebert. "There's a lot more people worse off they we are, overwhelming the support from the community."

People brought clothes, money, and offered countless acts of kindness.

"It's so emotional because we're a very close community, very tight knit," said Kristi Belcher.

"I know the community will step in anyway we can to help the family recover from this tragedy," said Jay Thornton-Superintendent, Campbell R-2 Schools.

The family salvaged a few things like some photos and other keepsakes.

They are saddened by the loss, but grateful to have each other.

"You just thank the Lord for your blessings," said Siebert. "It's emotionally overwhelming and we just want to thank everyone for their support."

The Siebert's are staying with family right now, as they wait for their insurance company to assess the damage.

It appears an electrical fire is to blame.

Jeremy Siebert also recently served as the principal at the Kelly School District.

If you're interested in helping out, donations can be sent to the Campbell School District.
