2 women accused of drug induced homicide

DONGOLA, IL (KFVS) -

A grand jury returned indictments against two Union County women.

Angie V. Liljegren, 58, of 3825 Christian Chapel Road in rural Dongola and Sandra L. Smith, 52, of 3550 Christian Chapel Road in rural Dongola were indicted in connection with the death of Zane Smith in September 2011.

Liljegren is charged with one count of drug induced homicide, a Class X felony, and one count of concealment of a homicidal death, a Class 3 felony.

Smith is charged with one count of drug induced homicide, a Class X felony, and one count of obstructing justice, a Class 4 felony.

Zane Smith was found dead at Liljegren's home on the morning of September 16, 2011.

Liljegren and Smith were indicted by the Union County Grand Jury earlier in August following a year-long investigation by Illinois State Police and the Union County Sheriff's Office.

Liljegren and Smith are alleged to have provided controlled substances to Smith in the days prior to his death, according to the Office of the Union County State's Attorney.

Liljegren is also alleged to have moved the Smith's body and delayed in allowing Union County Sheriff's deputies access to the room where the body was found.

Smith is accused of making false statements to investigators regarding delivery of a controlled substance to Zane Smith.

Liljegren and Smith were taken in to custody on August 20, 2012 by Illinois State Police and Union County Sheriff's deputies.

They were taken to the Jackson County Jail in Murphysboro on $150,000 bond each.

Their first court appearance and is set for Tuesday, August 21 at 9 a.m. at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.
