Improvements to begin at Mark Twain National Forest Whitten access

DONIPHAN, MO (KFVS) -

A Ripley County, Missouri company will begin improvements Monday at the Mark Twain National Forest's temporarily closed Whitten Access.

C&M Construction, a Ripley County contractor, was recently awarded $103,000 to make improvements to the access located on the Eleven Point Wild and Scenic River in Oregon County, east of Alton, Missouri.

"We understand these improvements will impact river users during the construction period," said Mark Twain National Forest Eleven Point District Ranger Tim Bond. "We apologize for this temporary inconvenience to the public. The closure is necessary to provide for public safety during construction activities that will address long term deferred maintenance and reduce congestion at the site."

No camping or day use is allowed during construction activities.
