1138th Engineer Company to deploy to Afghanistan

FORT BLISS, TX (KFVS) -

Around 95 Missouri National Guard soldiers with the 1138th Engineer Company will deploy for Afghanistan from Fort Bliss, Texas.

The 1138th is based out of Farmington, Mo.

Since June, the company has been undergoing extensive training for their 9 month mission.

Their training includes battle drills and other weapons training.

The 1138th Engineer Company had a surprise on August 12. They received new donated scarves to help them in their mission in the Afghanistan elements.

Doris Merritt of Corning, Arkansas claims she has made over 12,000 scarves and has been distributing these over the years to area soldiers.

She doesn't ask for donations to buy material but finds the donations in her mailbox from time to time anyway.

Merritt gave some scarves to Sandra Reed of Fredericktown which hand delivered these scarves to the soldiers of the 1138th in Fort Bliss.

The 1138th Engineer Company will be leaving on August 17 for overseas so the scarves will help them out immediately.
