Goreville man sentenced to 15 years theft, burglary

A Goreville man has been convicted of three unrelated charges of burglary and theft.

Richard A. Hart, 30, was convicted on three charges of theft and two unrelated charges of residential burglary on Wednesday.

According to the state's attorney's office, the offenses happened in July 2011.

He was accused of taking guns, fishing poles, a quilt and several items out of a basement while the homeowner was out of town.

In another theft Hart was accused of taking a rare coin collection and jewelry from a home.

At another home, Hart was accused of a forced entry while the homeowners were at work. He was accused of taking a golf cart and an ATV.

He was taken into custody in February 2012. He was caught stealing three truckloads of scrap metal in Goreville, according to the state's attorney.

Investigators say Hart admitted to police the burglaries and thefts.

He entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 15 total years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and to pay $15,000 restitution and court costs.
