Air rifle shots fired at mosque north of Chicago

CHICAGO (AP) - A Muslim civil liberties group says two shots from an air rifle were fired at a mosque in a northern Chicago suburb.

The shots damaged an outer wall of the Muslim Education Center in Morton Grove on Friday night. No one was injured.

The Chicago branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations says the shots were heard by worshippers outside the center, which serves as both a mosque and a school.

A spokesman for the Morton Grove police did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

The Muslim advocacy group says it believes the shots were fired by someone with a history of opposition to the mosque. It did not elaborate.

The group's director, Ahmed Rehab, says the incident is alarming and the weapon used was "powerful enough to kill."
