Rep. Shimkus visits drought stricken southern Illinois

METROPOLIS, IL (KFVS) -

Illinois State Representative John Shimkus made a visit to southern Illinois to see the impact the drought has had on this part of the state.

One of his stops was at a farm just east of Metropolis.

Shimkus says he realizes many families in his district are hurting because their crops are gone.

Farm experts say depending on when soy beans were planted, some of those crops may be OK.

Shimkus says he's working with other state lawmakers to develop a program to help farmers if something like the drought were to happen again.
