Four hurt in lightning strike

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY (KFVS) -

Lightning from storms Sunday afternoon in McCracken County, Kentucky sent four people to the hospital and damaged their vehicle.

It happened on westbound on Interstate 24 at the Exit 16 off ramp to US 68.

According to deputies, 38-year-old Brian McDowell, of Mattoon, IL was driving a 2005 Ford Freestyle on the interstate when it was hit by lightning.

The bolt damaged the vehicle's electrical system, causing it to stop working.

McDowell and his three passengers, 38-year-old Jade McDowell, 11-year-old Grace McDowell, and 17-year-old Paige Krutsinger, all of Mattoon, were taken to Lourdes Hospital in Paducah with non-life threatening injuries.

Mercy Regional EMS and the Riedland Fire Department helped deputies with the McCracken County Sheriff's Department at the scene.
