Geotechnical work continues for new Kentucky Lake bridge

A drilling crew has completed their geotechnical work at the site where new piers will be constructed in for a new Eggner's Ferry Bridge.

The Motor Vessel Gail Ann and the drilling rig left the site Thursday to return to their home base in Louisville.

Engineers will now take several months to meticulously analyze soil and rock samples taken from below the lake floor over the last weeks.

Information gleaned from the samples will help refine the planning of foundations for the design and eventually construction of a new basket handle arch bridge at the site.

First signs of actual construction are expected to be visible in early 2013, with the letting of an advance project.

Work on the replacement crossing for the Eggner's Ferry Bridge is tentatively scheduled for 2014.
