FREDERICKTOWN, MO (KFVS) -

The FBI has been called in to investigate multiple bomb threats in Fredericktown.

The first threat was made on Friday. It was one of at least nine threats made at Walmarts across the state.

Then, Monday, someone called the store again with another threat. Police checked it out and found nothing.

Madison County Sheriff David Lewis says there were three more threats made Tuesday within moments of one another.

The first at McDonalds, then another threat at Walmart, and as crews cleared the scene there, officers got word of a threat made against city hall.

The sheriff says investigators swept all three buildings and didn't find evidence of a bomb in any of the buildings.

Lewis says he believes the most recent threats are all related.

"It's a very big strain on the public obviously," Lewis said. "People's having bomb threats, they don't want to shop. Again, we have to take them very seriously and adhere to our policies and the police department's policy and our policy. So we can't take a chance with it."

Lewis says the caller could face several charges including terroristic threatening.

KFVS does not typically run bomb threats unless an arrest has been made.

However, because there have been dozens of similar threats called in across the country, and because the FBI is now investigating, Heartland News has chosen to report on these.
