Cape Girardeau receives national recognition

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Girardeau received national recognition from Forbes.com ranking it 74th best small place for business and careers.

"We've got a diverse business community," said Bob Neff, owner of Ford Groves. "In other words, we are not a one horse town. There's not one industry that really holds all the cards."

Neff said his dealership has been in Cape for almost 100 years and doesn't plan on changing anything.

"Well, we've around 98 years, our hope is to be around another 98," Neff said. "That's one of the things we can count on with Cape, it's constancy."

John Haggerty owns Le Bounce, a relatively new business. He said Cape was the perfect market for him.

"Cape has done a wonderful job as far as attracting families," Haggerty said. "I wanted to give families an opportunity to be entertained when they came in Cape Girardeau."

Haggerty picked Cape Girardeau because St. Louis and Memphis were the only ones around with similar entertainment.

Looking forward, both Neff and Haggerty don't plan on leaving anytime soon.

"For future projection, I would love to see this business grow along with the community," Haggerty said.

Forbes mentioned murals in downtown Cape Girardeau that added to the ranking.

It's also worth mentioning Cape finished 36th in cost of doing business and 67th in education.
