Man cycles across country for cancer research

A man cycling across the country to raise money for cancer research traveled through the Heartland Tuesday.

Heartland News caught up with Flynn Donoho, 53, in Ware on Route 3 in southern Illinois. He is on his way to St. Louis.

He has a tent, sleeps on the grounds of churches, and sometimes gets hotel rooms.

People donate money to him.

He has traveled more than 2000 miles and has raised about $800.

This is his second time cycling coast to coast for cancer.

A couple of years ago, he found himself homeless in California.

His friend, step-sister, and sister-in-law all died of cancer.

So he decided to get a bike and ride across country for the American Cancer Society.

Someone gave him a bike. He left in May from California and picked up a dog name "Diva" from a friend in Arizona.

Donoho credits his faith in God as his model for wanting to give back.

He expects to reach Maine sometime this summer.

All the money Donoho raises goes to the American Cancer Society. Click here to donate.
