7/25/12 - Politics

Watch for my ViewPoint segments on KFVS12 normally scheduled Tuesday & Thursday mornings at approximately 6:28, and Wednesday & Sunday nights following Heartland News At Ten.
It was a symbolic gesture. That's what they called it last week when the U.S. House of Representatives voted once again to repeal Obamacare. The members of the Republican majority House knew when they cast the vote that it would never make it through the Senate. They didn't care. They knew that the Supreme Court had just affirmed that it was constitutional. That didn't matter. They knew they could not repeal it. Yet they proceeded. For the 33rd time they completed this exercise in futility.
Some will defend the actions as showing perseverance. Some will argue that it is obstinate. Regardless of your political affiliation, or your feelings about Obamacare, you must admit that taking the time to debate and vote 33 times on the issue, knowing that nothing would change, was an absolute waste of the taxpayers' time and money.
We have serious issues that need to be addressed in our country. We are just about 100 days away from the general election, and yes, that means that you are going to see more and more political ads on TV as we get closer to November. No matter your political affiliation, whether Republican, Democrat, Tea Party, or Independent, the bottom line is this: if we don't get involved then we most certainly deserve what we get from Washington...good or bad.
Our political parties have spent far too much time pitting us against each other instead of uniting us and working for the best interests of our country. If you are not registered to vote, get registered, get educated on the issues, and in November pull the lever for the candidates that best represent you. That's my ViewPoint, what's yours?
Mine is just one of many viewpoints. If you'd like to comment I want to hear from you. Click here to e-mail your response on-line right now, or write me at the address below. Either way, be sure to include your name and hometown in case we use your comment on the air.
