Metropolis Honeywell plant to move forward with layoffs


Officials with the Honeywell plant in Metropolis are moving forward with laying off more than 200 employees.

According to Honeywell officials, a letter was sent to the union and employees on Thursday.

Honeywell says the layoffs will affect 228 employees. That includes 125 hourly and 103 salaried positions.

They say the plan is to retain 106 employees. Officials say the plant normally employees 334 employees when the plant is in full production.

Officials say affected employees will be paid though September 21, 2012 and receive benefits through September 30, 2012.

Honeywell says some employees may get the chance to apply at other locations within the company.

There is no change since last week on the status of potential upgrades to the plant.

Honeywell says that decision was make after a recent U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission inspection of the facility.
