SOUTHERN ILLINOIS (KFVS) - Energy efficiency grants may be available to some residents of Illinois counties whose homes were damaged or destroyed in the Feb. 29 tornadoes.
The grant funds are available to residents of Williamson, Saline, and Gallatin counties.
There will be meetings to inform the public about the grant program. The first meeting is on Wednesday, July 18, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Morello's, 217 E. Poplar St., Harrisburg, and the next on Thursday, July 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Golden Circle, 110 N. Crawford St., Ridgway.
The grants can be used to pay for energy efficiency upgrades done in affected areas after the Feb. 29 tornadoes. All work has to be verified by receipts or invoices and photos showing the upgrade.
Grant funds can also be used to upgrade to energy efficient appliances. For example, if a person planned to buy a refrigerator, but upgrading to a more energy efficient model cost an extra $200, the program would contribute $200 for the upgrade.
The grant funds can be used for work done prior to now, as long as it was done after Feb. 29.
