SIKESTON, MO (KFVS) -

A Sikeston barber is hoping to change his corner of the world, one hair cut at a time.

Shea Mouser just opened up a new barber shop about a month ago. What makes him different? He doesn't expect anyone to pay.

After trying out a few other trades, Shea Mouser found his passion.

"I've been barbering for about 10 years now," said Mouser.

He opened up his shop at 942 E. Malone Avenue. It's quaint, old fashioned, and certainly unique.

"The economy really puts a strain on people," said Mouser.

Sikeston like many Heartland cities wasn't immune to the recession whirlwind that closed doors and forced layoffs.

"A lot of people are hurting and are looking for work," said Mouser.

Shea saw an opportunity.

"The Lord has blessed me no doubt and I want to try and be a good steward of his blessings," said Mouser.

That's why he is now cutting hair for free.

"I'd think he'd be the kind of person who would do it," said one client.

"I think it's wonderful," said another client.

Mouser says his it's not a gimmick or reverse psychology. "I'm not trying to pull at your heart strings, I want people to know they really have the option," said Mouser.

He says some pay, and some don't. It's fine with him either way.

"If they can't pay anything, there's no questions asked," said Mouser.

Mouser's not looking to get rich, just get by. He says the feeling of helping others is reward enough.

"Just trusting the Lord will provide my needs," said Mouser. "If you don't have the money and don't feel you can do it just come by and take advantage of this. That's what I'm here for."

Shea's Barber Shop is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday -Thursday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday.
