Cape Public Schools host clothing drive to help with new dress code

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Public Schools will host a clothing drive to help families prepare for the new school year and the new dress code.

The clothing drive will be Tuesday, July 31 and Wednesday, August 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The drive will be held at the Central Junior High School Field House at 205 Caruthers.

The new school year begins Thursday, August 16.

"We want to make the transition to the new dress code as easy as possible," said Deena Ring, Special Services Director.

She is asking the community to bring new or gently used clothing to the District's central Administrative offices at 301 North Clark between July 23 and July 27.

Collection boxes will be located at the south end of the building.  The offices are open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The dress code was approved by the school board earlier this year.

Pictures of both approved and unapproved clothing are posted on the District's website:  www.capetigers.com.

Local clothing stores, as well as national vendors, are answering parent's questions regarding approved articles of clothing.

The District distributed an illustrated dress code guide in May, and will be mailing a second guide soon.

Families needing assistance with suitable clothing, due to financial reasons, are invited to come to the clothing drive to select items free of charge.

Deena Ring can be contacted at 573-335-1867.
