CARTERVILLE, IL (KFVS) -

A well-known Pinckneyville teacher has major injuries after she was hit by a vehicle while riding her bicycle in Carterville.

Carterville Police say it happened at 7:30 a.m. on July 10 at the intersection of Greenbriar Road and Cheryl Drive.

Police say Debbie Rodgers tried to turn left onto Cheryl Drive and turned into the path of a northbound vehicle driving by Kenneth Reese of Carterville.

Rodgers was taken to Memorial Hospital in Carbondale with major injuries.

Rodgers has taught for 33 years as a fifth grade teacher at Pinckneyville. The superintendent says she's a great teacher and a wonderful lady. They hope and pray they see her back in the classroom on September 4 when the next school year starts.
