Accused cattle rustler arrested in Mexico

An accused cattle rustler was arrested in Mexico.

Ron Shepard was found in Mexico and deported on July 10.

Shepard was taken into federal custody. He was wanted for bond default in the Southern District of Illinois.

Shepard initially appeared on charges that he violated his federal supervised release on bank fraud charges. He made bond and later fled the jurisdiction.

During the fugitive investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service became aware of at least four states where local agencies either had or were in the process of getting criminal arrest warrants for Shepard.

The charges include fraud, theft and/or larceny.

These warrants stemmed from allegations that Shepard was fraudulently taking proceeds from cattle sales in excess of a million dollars.

Shepard and his partner Jeremy Pierce are accused of stealing nearly $10 million.

Pierce is already in custody.
