CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Girardeau Police are investigating two assaults that happened after midnight on June 30.

Officer Darin Hickey with Cape Girardeau Police say one assault started as a verbal altercation and led to a person punched in the head.

The other assault started around Independence and Spanish Street. This victim was also punched in the head.

Police do not have any suspects.

Cole Crist is pressing charges after being punched in the back of the head in downtown Cape Girardeau.

"When I walked outside, that's the last thing I remember," said Crist. "I woke up and I'm looking at a firefighter and my head's covered in blood it's kind of shocking I guess. I had been knocked out from behind."

Crist says this all started after an altercation involving cigarettes.

"My friend had gotten back and his cigarettes were missing and one of his friends said those guys over there took your cigarettes," said Crist. "So we went to not really confront them and he just wanted his cigarettes back. They gave them to him. One of the them was real stand offish. I don't know what was said, something along of the lines of you got a problem?"

Police are still investigating
