Former sheriff sentenced, Deadly fire

Former Carter County Sheriff Tommy Adams and his former sheriff's deputy were sentenced on federal gun charges today.

Law enforcement officials say they are learning how to handle someone who has taken bath salts as more of these types of cases arise.

A Harrisburg man was killed in a weekend stabbing.

A 51-year-old Mt. Vernon woman died in a fire at her home early this morning. Her husband and son were injured while trying to save her.

A Southern Illinois University student was killed in an early morning crash.

Two women escaped after their car caught on fire this evening in Cape Girardeau.

Work is resuming on the intentionally breached Birds Point levee in southeast Missouri now that a protest to a construction bid has been deemed "without merit" by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Melaina's Magical Playland, a playground for kids of all abilities, was vandalized over the weekend. The vandals destroyed some panels and a couple of slides.

Gov. Jay Nixon has signed legislation requiring Missouri drivers to allow more space for stopped Transportation Department vehicles.

You probably could have guessed this, but the condition of corn in the 18 states that produce most of it has deteriorated due to widespread drought, according to the latest report from the USDA.
