BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Law enforcement officials say they are learning how to handle someone who has taken bath salts as more of these types of cases arise.
According to Trooper Clark Parrott with the Missouri Highway Patrol, they are handling each case as it comes.
"With alcohol and certain types of drug use, there are benchmarks and indicators as to what would impair someone," said Parrott. "With bath salts, it's a whole new ball game for everyone because it is so new and there is no benchmark."
Not only is the use of it new, it constantly changes according to Parrott.
"The manufactures have changed the molecular structure of it so what was illegal a year ago gets tweaked a little bit and its not even covered," said Parrott.
Parrott says troopers have started for ambulances more often so the person can be evaluated by a medical examiner.
