Cape Girardeau Police Chief retiring

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Change is coming to the Cape Girardeau Police Department.

Chief Carl Kinnison is retiring from the position effective August 1.

He tells Heartland News that he is accepting full time instructor's position in the criminal justice department at Southeast Missouri State University.

He had already been teaching part time at the university for the past 10 years.  He had been with the CPD for 33 years and chief for almost seven.

Roger Fields will be acting chief.  And, the city will start a selection process to name an official successor.

Chief Kinnison says it's been an honor serving in the Cape Police Department, it's been a huge part of his life and he will miss it.
