WEST FRANKFORT, IL (KFVS) -

West Frankfort police arrested three teenagers after several vehicle burglaries and thefts.

Police arrested Carl R. Digby, 17, of West Frankfort, Alexander L. Wallace, 18, of Flora, and 16-year- old boy from West Frankfort.

Police recovered a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup truck on June 20 in the 700 block of west 9th Street. It had been reported stolen.

Someone had reported a suspicious 1994 Ford truck with three males in it to police around 11:30 a.m. on July 1. The suspects went into rural Franklin County residents' garages. The owner of the truck was contacted and police learned the truck was stolen.

Then, West Frankfort police found Digby around 3:45 p.m. on July 1 with a 1999 Ford Explorer that had been reported stolen. He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase as he tried to go through a pond.

Wallace and the 16 year old were arrested around 8:45 p.m. on July 1 in West Frankfort.

Police say all three will be charged with several counts of theft of a motor vehicle and burglary to a motor vehicle. Digby will be charged with additional charges related to fleeing police.

The teens told police they had broken into about 25 vehicles overnight.

They told police all of the vehicles were unlocked and most had items of value in plain sight.

Officers recovered a large amount of stolen property which will be returned to its rightful owner.
