CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

Cape Girardeau fire crews battled an early-morning house fire.

The call came in just after 4 a.m. Saturday to a home on the 400 block of Louisiana Street.

When firefighters arrived they reported seeing flames coming from the home.

The heaviest damage is in the roof or attic of the home. In one area, it appears a portion of the room collapsed.

Crews say it started on the front outside part of the house, spread up the wall and into the attic.

One female adult and three children were inside when the fire started and got out safely.

The female adult did receive a minor burn to the left leg.

Smoke detectors were not working inside the house.  The case is still under investigation and the fire marshal was called in to investigate.
