MARION, IL (KFVS) -

Drivers heading east or west on Route 13 in Marion ran into a lot of traffic problems on Saturday.

That's because the Illinois Department of Transportation is in the process of demolishing the northbound bridge of Interstate 57.

They're also tearing up all of Route 13 in the area to redesign the entire interchange.

The work began at 10 p.m. Friday night.

And as you can imagine traffic is backing up as people try to find their way around the area.

"It's pretty upsetting because last night I ran 10 miles out of my route just to get to my motel room," said Robert Cecil of Detroit, Michigan. "Now again this morning I have to run about a mile and a half out of my route just to get back on the interstate. It's not very profitable for me."

The construction delays at Interstate 57 and Route 13 in Marion are expected to last throughout the weekend.
