CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The drought has created problems for lawns throughout the Heartland.
What should we do to keep them from drying out?
The folks at Sunny Hill Gardens say the first thing to do is calm down.
Paul Schnare says most people overreact in a drought situation and they end up watering too much.
Schnare recommends mimicking Mother Nature. We don't usually get rain every day, so you shouldn't water your lawn every day.
"What you really want to do is not look at the plants. Look at the soil. If the soil is really dry, then water. If the soil has a little moisture in it, don't water," Schnare said.
Water less often and don't just go by the way your plants look.
Schnare adds when you do water, the best time to do it is in the mornings.
