Southern Illinois Miner will get a shot at the big leagues

Frontier League player Matt Fields will get a shot at playing his way into the Major Leagues..

The Southern Illinois Miners 1st Baseman's contract has been purchased by the Kansas City Royals. Fields who has been with the Miners since last May will report to the Royals High-A Minor League team in Wilmington, Delaware Friday.

In his 94 games as a Miner, Fields had an average of .262, with 95 hits, 26 home runs and 72 RBI's. 

He is one of 18 Miners players to make the move to a minor league team.

    The SIU Football team gave Memphis all it could handle but fell at the end on the road 44-31. The Salukis took a 21-17 lead into halftime but couldn't get past the Tigers at the end.
