MURPHYSBORO, IL (KFVS) - Despite being slated to close, the Illinois Youth Center at Murphysboro is at the top of the class in juvenile justice.
That's according to a non-profit group aimed at improving juvenile justice nationwide.
A recent performance based standards report by the council of juvenile correctional administrators finds IYC Murphysboro nearly aced its review.
The facility scored 100 percent on almost all of 31 critical outcome criteria which is why employees can't understand why the facility will be shut down.
"This is the second time in less than a year that this facility has been targeted for closure," said IYC Murphysboro Union President Greg Foreman. And, based on what? It can't be on our performance. I mean the numbers speak for themselves on this report that just came out."
IYC Murphysboro also scored higher in performance based standards than any other juvenile facility in five states.
