2 killed, 1 injured in crash near Dix

DIX, IL (KFVS) -

Two people were killed and one injured in a crash north of Dix Wednesday morning.

It happened about 11:09 a.m. Wednesday on IL Route 37 north of Eisenhower Road, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

Charles R. Flanagan, 70, of Mt. Vernon was thrown from his truck and pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Eddie Marks.

June J. Wise, 84, of Dix, was a passenger in the second vehicle driven by William J. Hall, 76, of Dix. Wise was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by Marks.

Hall was also thrown from the vehicle. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, then airlifted to a St. Louis hospital with injuries.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson Fire Protection District, Kell Fire Protection District, Litton's Ambulance, and Jefferson County Coroner personnel responded to the crash.

    According to an Ameren spokesman, a bird's nest on a pole caught on fire leading to a downed power line on Route K around 10 a.m.
