Trial starts for first of two men accused in 2011 shooting

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) -

The trial for one of two men accused of shooting another man in the head is underway.

Jimmy Bell is accused of shooting Joshua Abernathie in August 2011 after they'd all been drinking.

Joshua Abernathie, 23, was shot in the left side of the head on County Road 535 in the Neely's Landing area, according to the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department. He survived.

Bell faces charges of first degree assault and armed criminal action.

Seth Summers, a second suspect in the shooting, faces the same charges.

His trial is set for August 2012.
