PADUCAH, KY (KFVS) - Police arrested a man after another was injured during a shooting Monday night in McCracken County.
It happened near the Indian Oaks Mobile Home Park. Deputies were dispatched to 4131 Clarks River Road at 9:32 p.m. Monday. Two sheriff's deputies were already in the mobile home park on an unrelated call. They arrived to the shooting victim's location within a minute or so.
Codi M. Knight, 22, appeared to have been shot in the arm. He was taken to Western Baptist Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The shooting actually happened on the banks of the Clarks River under the railroad bridge just east of the mobile home park. An argument broke out between Knight and Dalton. Witnesses told sheriff's deputies the two had been drinking and were in an argument over a female.
Dalton pulled out the semi-automatic pistol and began shooting at Knights' feet, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.
Medical staff were unable to determine if the wound to Knights' arm was from a bullet or something that may have ricocheted from the ground by the bullets. About 15 rounds were fired.
Knight was treated and released from Western Baptist Hospital.
Witnesses told deputies the shooter had run from the scene to another mobile home at Lot# 132.
Deputies negotiated with the suspect for almost an hour to get him to come out and surrender.
Michael Dalton, 34, came out once, refused deputies commands, appeared to be intoxicated, and ran back inside, according to the McCracken County Sheriff's Department. A few minutes later, he came out of the mobile home again. He again refused deputies commands. The deputies used a distraction device (known as a flash bang) and a Taser to take the Dalton into custody.
Deputies found a pistol that was believed to have been used in the shooting inside the mobile home at Lot #132. Deputies seized a semi-automatic pistol which was a .25 caliber.
Detectives recovered some evidence which included spent shell casings on the banks of the Clarks River.
Michael L. Dalton, 34, of Paducah is charged with wanton endangerment 1st degree and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
Dalton was taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail. The Paducah Police Department also assisted at the scene.
